SIM
Drivers
Create and tune driver profiles that simulations use for throttle, braking, steering, and gear shift behavior.
Drivers are reusable SIM inputs that describe a driver or baseline driver profile. Simulations select a driver with the vehicle and ambient. FastSim also selects a circuit. OpenSim also selects a driver input.
Use drivers when you need to compare driver assumptions, keep team naming consistent, or tune driver limits before running simulations.
Before you start
- Select the correct team.
- Create, edit, duplicate, and delete actions depend on module permissions.
- Choose a naming convention that your team can recognize in simulation setup and analysis.
Create a driver
- Open Drivers from the sidebar.
- Select New.
- Enter Name.
- Enter Short Name. Short name is limited to 7 characters.
- Add Notes when the driver profile needs context.
- Add Tags when the team filters drivers by program, event, or baseline.
- Save the driver.
The driver appears in the Drivers table and in simulation driver selectors for the active team.
Edit driver metadata
- Open Drivers.
- Select the row action for the driver.
- Choose Edit.
- Update name, short name, notes, or tags.
- Save the changes.
Tune driver parameters
- Open Drivers.
- Select the driver row.
- Review Driver Parameters on the detail page.
- Edit the parameter values that should represent the driver or baseline profile.
- Save with Update Data when the action appears.
Driver fields
| Field | What it means | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Full driver or profile name. | Required. |
| Short Name | Compact label used in tables and selectors. | Required. Max 7 characters. |
| Notes | Team context for the driver profile. | Optional. |
| Tags | Labels used for filtering and organization. | Optional. |
Driver parameters
| Parameter | Description | Units | Default | Validation / Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Max Throttle Rate | Maximum rate the driver can change throttle position. | %/s | 500 | 100 to 10000 |
| Max Brake Rate | Maximum rate the driver can change brake position. | %/s | 500 | 100 to 10000 |
| Max Brake Force | Maximum brake pedal force the driver can apply. | N | 800 | 10 to 10000 |
| Max Steering Wheel Angle Rate | Maximum rate the driver can change steering wheel angle. | °/s | 1000 | 100 to 10000 |
| Min Gear Shift Interval | Minimum time between two gear shifts. | s | 0.2 | 0 to 2 |
Use a driver in simulations
- FastSim requires Vehicle, Circuit, Ambient, and Driver.
- OpenSim requires Vehicle, Ambient, Driver, and Driver Input.
- Use tags and clear short names so race engineers can select the intended driver profile during setup.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| New is hidden | Confirm your role has module create permission. |
| Cannot save metadata | Check required name and short name. Short name must be 7 characters or fewer. |
| Cannot save parameter changes | Fix validation errors in Driver Parameters before selecting Update Data. |
| Driver is missing from simulation setup | Confirm the correct team is active and the driver exists in that team. |
