Analyze simulation telemetry
Use Detailed Analysis to inspect laps, telemetry channels, cursor values, track position, and simulation comparisons.
Detailed Analysis helps race engineers inspect telemetry from completed simulations. Use it to compare laps, overlay simulations, read cursor values, and connect trace changes to setup or driving changes.
Before you start
- Select the correct team.
- Use a completed simulation with telemetry output.
- Load or create an analysis layout.
- Use comparison simulations that are relevant to the question you are answering. The comparison dialog can filter by circuit, vehicle, creator, date range, and tags.
Open Detailed Analysis from a simulation
- Open Simulations.
- Select a completed simulation.
- Open the Analysis tab.
- Load or create a layout.
- Select a lap in the Simulations panel.
- Turn channels on or off in the Channels panel.
The selected lap appears in the chart area. Cursor values appear in Cursor Data, and the circuit marker appears in Track Map when track data is available.
Open Detailed Analysis from the sidebar
- Open Analysis > Detailed Analysis.
- Select Import Simulation.
- Use filters when needed:
- Circuit.
- Vehicle.
- Created By.
- Date Range.
- Tags.
- Select one or more simulations.
- Select Compare.
- Load or create a layout.
- Select laps and channels.
When Detailed Analysis is opened from the sidebar, the first selected simulation becomes the primary simulation. Additional selected simulations become comparison simulations.
Compare simulations
- In Detailed Analysis, select Add Simulation Comparison.
- Review the prefilled filters. By default, 4ACE can prefill circuit and vehicle from the primary simulation.
- Change filters when you need a wider or narrower comparison set.
- Select simulations from the results list.
- Select Compare.
- Select laps for each loaded simulation.
The lap list groups laps by simulation. Comparison simulations show loading and retry states when their data is still being fetched.
Use the analysis workspace
| Area | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Simulations | Expand simulations, select laps, change lap colors, retry failed lap loads, and set a reference lap. |
| Channels | Search, show, hide, reorder, group, split, rename, and style channels in the active panel. |
| Panels | Switch between saved panel views, add panels, rename panels, delete panels, and reorder tabs. |
| Chart area | Inspect selected lap traces, zoom the x-axis, switch between stacked and overlay layouts, and add channels from the context menu. |
| Overview | Adjust the visible x-axis range after data is loaded. |
| Cursor Data | Read values at cursor position for each visible channel and selected lap. |
| Track Map | See cursor position on the circuit map when slim track data is available. |
Work with reference laps and delta
Use the flag button beside a selected lap to set a reference lap. When the Delta Time channel is visible and a reference lap is set, 4ACE computes a delta trace against that reference.
The delta unit follows the x-axis mode:
| X-axis mode | Delta meaning |
|---|---|
| Distance | Delta time against the reference lap. |
| Time | Delta distance against the reference lap. |
Keyboard shortcuts
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| ArrowLeft / ArrowRight | Move cursor left or right by a small step. |
| Shift+ArrowLeft / Shift+ArrowRight | Move cursor left or right by a large step. |
| ArrowUp / ArrowDown | Zoom in or out by a small step. |
| Shift+ArrowUp / Shift+ArrowDown | Zoom in or out by a large step. |
| R | Reset cursors. |
| F | Toggle cursor mode between Follow and Locked. |
| Space | Set or clear the reference cursor. |
| L | Zoom to full lap. |
| A | Zoom to full extent. |
| T | Toggle Time or Distance x-axis. |
| Mod+K | Open the command palette. |
| Tab / Shift+Tab | Move to next or previous panel. |
| G | Toggle stacked or overlay chart mode. |
| Mod+Enter | Toggle fullscreen. |
| Mod+Shift+A | Add channels. |
Mod means Command on macOS and Ctrl on Windows or Linux.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| No Simulation Loaded appears | Select Import Simulation and choose at least one simulation. |
| No Layout Loaded appears | Select Load Layout or Create Layout. |
| No simulation data available appears | Confirm the simulation completed and has telemetry output. |
| Select a lap to view data appears | Select at least one lap in the Simulations panel. |
| Failed to load selected lap data appears | Select Retry for the failed lap. |
| Selected lap data unavailable appears | Confirm the selected lap has telemetry for the visible channels. |
| Track unavailable appears | The selected simulation does not have usable slim track data for the track map. |
| Comparison list has no results | Clear filters, widen the date range, or check vehicle, circuit, creator, and tag filters. |
| Layout cannot be loaded | Confirm the layout belongs to the active team and is not private to another user. |
